NDT on bonded assemblies: experiments and digital simulation

Rescoll’Blog / 14 avril 2022

The partners of the MONARQUE project (Airbus, Safran, Thales, CEA, IO, Armelio, Rescoll, PIMM-ENSAM) met on April 13 at Rescoll for the closing meeting of the project and to visit the laser shock platform, a major deliverable of the project, installed in the premises of Rescoll.

This platform will make it possible to exploit the potential of laser shock in various industrial applications. Initially, it will enable studies to be carried out up to a high TRL on the non-destructive testing (NDT) of bonded composite/composite and composite/metal assemblies, operations which are currently unfeasible and which constitute one of the major obstacles to the development of bonding operations, particularly in the aeronautical field.

The NDT on welded assemblies between thermoplastic composites is also in the program of studies to be conducted.

Advances in the numerical simulation of these processes (VANESSES project involving DynaS+, Rescoll and PIMM-ENSAM) have complemented the experimental data provided by the MONARQUE project.

The funders present (DGA) pointed out the interest of this new platform, without equivalent in Europe, and the benefits that the national industry could draw from it.

Next autumn a Technical Day will be organized in Bordeaux to present the results obtained. This will be the occasion for an official inauguration of the laser shock platform.
